Lakeview Lutheran Parish Daytimers
Daytimers meets every other month on the second Wednesday for lunch and conversation. This event is potluck and we encourage you to bring a dish to pass.
Obviously, we’re changing things up this month as we moved our April gathering to May.
This month’s Daytimers will include an invitation to a Wednesday Morning Concert before the luncheon.
Piano Lecture | Recital. Wednesday, May 10, 10:30 am
Pianist Thomas Schmidt will perform Beethoven’s Sonata No. 31 in A-flat major. The sonata is from Beethoven’s introspective late period and considered one of his most emotionally moving works. Tom will provide verbal background and commentary to help us appreciate the sonata. Holy Trinity member Tom Schmidt was cantor at St. Peter's Lutheran in New York for 25 years before moving to Chicago. As a professional pianist he toured with the Arden Trio for 25 years and made a number of CDs.
At 11:30 am we will move upstairs for a potluck meal. Please bring a dish to share. A wonderful opportunity to meet others from our LLP congregations!
Movie Night: CODA
Coda, the Academy award winning film, will be part of our first movie night in two years!! We will join as a community in watching the film together. Following the movie, we will have shared refreshments and a discussion of the film.
LLP Youth Group Service Event: South Loop Community Table
Each year we try to do a couple of events with the youth of the parish that involve service to our community. In April we will be volunteering with the South Loop Community Table (SLCT).
SLCT is a weekly dinner party for those experiencing homelessness, co-hosted by two campus ministries in Chicago: the Inclusive Collective and South Loop Campus Ministry. Holy Trinity has volunteered here in the past with Pastor Ben Adams and it was a very enriching experience. I encourage you all to participate. SLCT is a space that strives to break down barriers that society has created — barriers that tell us who should and shouldn’t build community together. It is a space made of folks that believe wholeheartedly in the power of community—of seeing people for all of who they are, no matter their situation. SLCT is a celebration of God’s kin-dom, a living example of how God intended the world to be: inclusive, communal, loving, and just.
In order to plan for transportation for everyone we'll need the youth to sign up in advance to let us know they will participate. I will need one more chaperone (possibly 2) to drive and to volunteer with us.
When: April 23
Time: Meet at HTLC at 5:00 p.m.
Volunteer: 6-9 p.m.
Return to HTLC approximately 9:30
Please let Pastor Sevig know if you have any questions. Email her now if you plan to participate.
