Barbara Kudirka, pianist

Barbara Kudirka was born in Mankato, MN, where she began piano lessons at age five. She graduated from Mankato State University, and went on to earn a Master of Music in Piano Performance at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. She has participated in masterclasses with Byron Janis, Adele Marcus, Alexis Weissenberg, John O’Conor, Christopher Elton and Angela Cheng, as well as Menahem Pressler, who has been her teacher and inspiration in masterclasses at Indiana University in Bloomington and the Adamant School of Music in Adamant, VT. She has given performances in Illinois, Minnesota, Colorado, New York, Vermont and as far away as Kazakhstan, where she toured with bassoonist Nicolasa Kuster.

 

In addition to a graduate degree in piano performance, she has a Master of Arts in Ministry from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, with a core emphasis on small group spiritual formation. She is a Spiritual Director and Deacon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and has served as Director of Worship & Music and  Small Group coordinator at several Chicago area churches. Her current ministry includes both music and spiritual direction. Music and the arts are central to her experience of God’s goodness.
