Third Thursdays: They Are Us: Lutherans and Immigration

Immigration is in the spiritual DNA of Lutherans in the United States and in Lakeview.  Yet this may be the harshest public climate for immigrants, asylum seekers, refugees, economic migrants that we have experienced in a long time.  Through AMMPARO (Accompanying Migrant Minors with Protection, Advocacy, Resource and Opportunities) and the declaration of the ELCA as a “Sanctuary” church body, we are making an important witness in our mission and advocacy.  Pastor Stephen Bouman and Ralston Deffenbaugh (former director of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services) have written a second edition of “They Are Us: Lutherans and Immigration,” which is being release this fall by Augsburg Fortress.  Pastor Bouman will convene this 3rd Thursday Conversation which will include an update on this issue as well as a panel of members of our congregations who are involved in these issues.
